EDMONTON - A man speeding on an Edmonton highway is now facing several charges, including causing a child to be in need of intervention.

Const. Dean Shwaga says he pulled over a 30-year-old driver of a Hyundai after clocking him doing 163 kilometres per hour on the Anthony Henday highway in October.

He says there were two children, aged eight and nine, in the backseat.

Originally the driver was charged with speeding and careless driving, but the Crown reviewed the file and approved additional charges this week.

Police allege he also veered sharply over three lanes to make an erratic exit in what they call a "hazardous manoeuvre.
