Daniel Paillé, Leader Of Bloc Québécois, To Resign

Bloc Québécois Leader Daniel Paillé is expected to step down today for health reasons, Radio-Canada has learned.​

Paillé is expected to make the announcement at a news conference this afternoon in Montreal, CBC's French service says.

The nature of Paillé's illness is not known.

Paillé was elected head of the sovereigntist party on Dec. 11, 2011, succeeding Gilles Duceppe.

Duceppe announced he would step down following the 2011 federal election.
