A holiday stunt by a Toronto marketing agency turned into a Santa vs. Ford Nation standoff at City Hall on Friday.
Wheelbarrows full of coal were delivered to Toronto City Hall after the agency invited people to put the mayor on their naughty list, Global News reports. The company, called Bob's Your Uncle, started an online campaign at robfordcoal.com that allowed users to donate virtual coal to the mayor. The agency also pledged to donate a dollar for each piece of virtual coal, up to a maximum of $5,000, The Globe and Mail reported.
They also turned the virtual donations into a real coal delivery, which they told reporters they got from a blacksmith.
But when Santa tried to deliver the coal to the mayor's office inside City Hall, he got a less than warm welcome.
CP24 reporter Katie Simpson said one Ford supporter "screamed at Santa to 'get a job'.
"Santa says 'I have one sir.'"
Security also asked Santa to leave the building, and he wasn't allowed to bring the coal past the front desk.
Sorry, Santa.
The coal delivery wasn't the only hijinks at Toronto's City Hall on Friday. Hundreds lined up to purchase Rob Ford bobblehead dolls, a previous sale of the souvenir sold out in just a few hours.
