Justin Bieber Officially Retiring? Star Drops News About Hiatus On Twitter (TWEETS)

Says He's 'Retiring'

Depending on your feelings about Justin Bieber, this may be the best or worst Christmas gift you'll receive all year.

The controversial pop star announced Tuesday night that he was "retiring" via Twitter.

The 19-year-old then immediately followed up the tweet with two more titbits about his sometimes prickly relationship with the media and a little Christmas wisdom.

Details behind the tweets are still unclear but the timing of the news seems to coincide with the release with his new documentary "Believe", set to open on Christmas Day. Also worth noting is that the star's plans for an early retirement have been in the makings for a few days now -- even if they have been unclear.

Last week, the Canadian singer told his fans he was calling it quits after his new album.

"After the new album, I'm actually retiring man. I'm retiring," Bieber said in an radio interview with Power 106 in Los Angeles on Dec. 17, the Daily Mail points out.

Bieber then backtracked on the statement saying he's considering a break to let himself develop.

"I want to grow as an artist and I'm taking a step out, I want my music to mature."

While Bieber's Christmas Eve tweets have sparked a storm on Twitter, his reps have a different message. They told E! News "of course it's not true." As Gossip Cop notes, Justin was merely joking about retirement. He's still has to win a Grammy first apparently.
