Surrey Highrise Fall Investigated As A Homicide

SURREY, B.C. - Police are investigating what is being called a "suspicious death" of a 19-year-old woman in Surrey, B.C.

Sgt. Adam MacIntosh says in a news release that the unidentified woman apparently fell from the 26th floor of a highrise in the city's north end at about 1 a.m.

He says police were called to the building over a possible domestic dispute and found the woman on the ground, outside the building.

MacIntosh says a 23-year-old man is currently in custody but no charges have been laid in the incident.

Surrey recorded two dozen homicides in 2013, breaking a record and forcing the mayor to launch a task force to solve the problem.

On Tuesday, 53-year-old hockey mom Julie Paskall died from injuries she sustained during a Sunday night attack outside a hockey arena, and police suspect she was the victim of a random robbery.
