As the saying goes, "the clothes make the man." But, in the case of one Vancouverite, the clothes make the mannequin.

Steve Venegas, a local media and communications specialist, has swept the Internet off its feet with a new and hilarious Tumblr called The Gap Mannequin Project.

"I try on clothes and have my photo taken," he writes on his Tumblr, "because it's funny to dress like a dummy."

Basically, Venegas goes to Gap stores and dresses in the same outfits as the mannequins around the store. Then he takes pictures standing or sitting next to them.

The blog went live on Dec. 31, and gained 500 followers within its first day.

Venegas told The Province there was no special reason he chose the Gap, saying that back in 2009 he was in the store with his wife and noticed that its mannequins were approximately his size.

And while Gap director of global digital and social media Rachel Tipograph tweeted at Venegas on Thursday to say "thanks for the LOLs," whether or not his project turns into some kind of financial reward remains to be seen.

When a friend took to Twitter to ask Venegas if he was rich yet, he replied: "I don't even have a store discount."
