COLD LAKE, Alta. - A man in northeastern Alberta who is charged with abusing his daughter has been denied legal aid.

The child's father, who is 30, is charged with aggravated assault, assault and criminal negligence causing bodily harm.

He appeared in Cold Lake provincial court Wednesday and says he will appeal the legal aid decision.

Crown lawyer Jeff Rudiak says the girl is now blind because of the abuse and may suffer from cerebral palsy.

The man's 22-year-old girlfriend faces the same charges.

The couple are to appear in court again on Feb. 12.
