The shooting occurred at around 9:30 p.m. in an apartment on Sherbrooke Street near 29th Avenue. The victim was shot at least once in the upper body and he was later pronounced dead in hospital.
A number of witnesses saw the shooting take place and were treated for nervous shock. They were later questioned by investigators from the the Montreal police department’s Major Crimes Unit.
Police are calling the shooting Montreal’s first homicide of 2014.
There were also two other armed assaults on Saturday evening.
Police are looking for two men in a dark SUV seen fleeing the scene of a drive-by shooting in Rivière-des-Prairies that left a 28-year-old man with gunshot wounds to his legs.
The incident took place at around 6 p.m. on Perras Boulevard near Elie-Beauregard Avenue.
Police say the suspects fired several shots at the man, who was hit at least twice in the legs. He is in hospital and is expected to recover.
Police say the victim is not cooperating with their investigation and they are asking for the public’s assistance in helping to identify the suspects.
Another person was assaulted around 10 p.m. in St-Leonard, where a 27-year-old man suffered serious lacerations to his upper-body in an attack with a sharp weapon on Nevers Street.
He was assisted by a passerby, who performed first aid.
The victim is now in critical condition and police are trying to piece together details of what happened.
