CALGARY - A Calgary man who was dragged about 100 metres while trying to prevent a thief from stealing his pickup truck is in hospital recovering from serious injuries.

Police say the man awoke around midnight to the sound of someone trying to make off with the vehicle from their northwest-area home.

He confronted the thief in an alley and was initially pinned against a fence before he was dragged.

The homeowner was taken to hospital with what were feared to be life-threatening injuries, but his condition has been upgraded to stable.

The pickup was found abandoned a few blocks away and police say they're investigating a possible link between it and another stolen truck discovered nearby.

A suspect is still being sought.
