The L.A. cops' egg raid on Justin Bieber's house was undeniably overkill — TMZ reported 11 patrol cars and a battering ram — but the felony search warrant related to last week's egging of Bieber's neighbour's house did result in one arrest: that of the pop star's BFF Lil Za for cocaine possession.
But who is Lil Za?
Well, the 19-year-old also named as Xavier Smith is little known outside of his association with Bieber (though that has help him get a quarter million Twitter followers) but he did post a rap song called "Gangster Shit" to YouTube in 2012. It's about as original as you'd expect of a song called "Gangster Shit."
Most other news reports involve him getting Bieber in trouble. Lil Za and better-known sidekick Lil Twist, who had been living at Bieber's mansion, have been driving Bieber's fleet of cars wrecklessly, and are linked to various other Bieber downward spiral scandals like drinking codeine, smoking weed and assaulting paparazzi.
In September, the Lils were shopping a reality show but later that month Bieber reportedly kicked them out of his house. Bieber apparently blamed them for stolen jewelry that went missing when the pair threw parties at the mansion while he was on tour.
According to a Daily Mail report last March, Bieber's problems began when he broke up with Selena Gomez and started hanging out with Lil Twist and Lil Za.
"You have to look at the people he is hanging out with. They are very distinct from the group of professionals around him, like his manager, who do a terrific job guiding his career and caring for him. Justin's issues really started when he started hanging out with this undesirable crowd," said an unnamed "Hollywood associate."
