The recall applies to only the WD-40 Multi-Use Product equipped with "Smart Straw." That's the bottle that comes with an oblong red top attached to an applicator straw that pivots up for use.
Another variety of can, with the small red cap and removable straw, is not being recalled as that type meets Health Canada's standards for child-safe packaging.
The affected bottles come in two sizes:
- A 325-gram can with the item number 01053 and UPC number 061536010536.
Both bottles were sold between 2006 up to last year. Both were manufactured and packaged in the U.S., with about 2.3 million cans sold in Canada.
In a related recall, the company's 3-in-One Garage Door Lubricant equipped with "Smart Straw" is also affected. That product is sold in 331-gram cans with the item number 01043 and UPC code 061536010437.
About 300,000 of those have been sold in Canada since 2006.
Neither Health Canada nor WD-40 Company (Canada) Ltd. has received any reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of these products.
Anyone who has those products should keep them out of reach of children and call 1-866-210-0538 or go to the company's website for a gift card for a free replacement product.
