Her family spent the duration of Eugenie's match Monday on the edge of their seats.
“We were screaming in the house,” says Mike Bouchard, Eugenie’s father.
“I would say we were mildly hysterical.”
Eugenie faces China’s Li Na in Australia Wednesday night (Thursday morning in Australia).
Twelve years Bouchard’s senior, Na is a curious pairing for Eugenie.
But Eugenie’s father believes she’s got what it takes to beat her competitor.
“It’s not necessarily something you’re born with — having that killer instinct, having that desire to go to the outer limits of your ability," he says, adding that Eugenie possesses those instincts.
"She spends a lot of time training obviously and she’s learned to compete and it’s becoming second nature to her now,” he continues.
“That’s all she’s focusing on now — that next tennis match.”
