Halifax Mooseheads goalie Zach Fucale made history in Saint John Tuesday night, breaking the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League record for 100 wins in less than 150 games.

The Mooseheads beat the Saint John Sea Dogs 5-2, earning the 18-year-old Quebec native his 100th win in 145 games.

The record was previously held by Jacques Cloutier, of the Trois-Rivières Draveurs, who at 19 achieved 100 wins during his 150th game back in 1979.

"It's a great feeling," Fucale told CBC News. "It's a great honour to be up there with 100 and I have to thank my team ... I have to thank this team, last year's, and the year before," he said.

"It's extremely special. I mean, at the beginning of a career in junior, you can never predict what's going to happen, especially something big like that."

Tuesday's record-breaking win was just one of many successes for Fucale in the past year.

He helped the Mooseheads clinch the Memorial Cup last May and was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in June.

Just weeks ago, he also represented Canada at the World Juniors, playing a key role in helping the team beat the United States in the series.
