Toronto Mayor Rob Ford becomes a Jeopardy! clue

Rob Ford’s year of drug and drinking scandals and verbal faux pas have earned the embattled Toronto mayor a prestigious spot in the world of television game shows.

On Thursday evening’s episode of Jeopardy!, Ford was the subject of an $800 question in a category called Scandal.

Host and fellow Canadian Alex Trebek, who joked about making his own mayoral bid in Toronto earlier this year, read the clue to chuckles from the audience.

“In 2013, Rob Ford, mayor of this 4th-largest city in N. America first said he smoked weed, not crack...then, yes, ok, crack, too,” he said.

One contestant quickly buzzed in with the correct response: “What is Toronto?”

Trebek remarked, “Yes, that’s the city,” before moving on to the next clue.

But people on Twitter had a lot more to say.

“Rob Ford topic of question on ‘Jeopardy,’" wrote @canadiancynic. "[C]ontestants baffled by references to ‘Purple Jesus’ and ‘bumbaclot.’”

“This better have been worth like 30 cents,” Toronto Star reporter Daniel Dale chimed in.

Some Twitter users just seemed to be happy that Canada was being recognized south of the border — although some of it was surely sarcastic.

“Remember when Canadians used to complain that Americans know nothing about them? Thanks to Rob Ford, that's not true anymore,” wrote @DaveMcGimpsey.

“You know Rob Ford is a big deal when he makes it to a Jeopardy question,” wrote @sabzucaro.

“‘World-class’ at long long last,” wrote @BobReidToronto.
