Toronto Mayor Rob Ford is stirring up some pre-Super Bowl fodder after dressing himself in a Denver Broncos jersey at a press conference on Monday.
Wearing the number 74, the jersey of Scarborough-raised Broncos player Orlando Franklin, Ford lambasted the city’s proposed 2014 budget.
“This is completely irresponsible, reckless and unsustainable. This isn’t how you run a business and this isn’t how you run your own household,” he said, CP24 News reports.
Ford then teased a plan to recover $50 million in savings, albeit without revealing any details, according to CBC News. He cited trust issues as the reason, saying it would better to inform all councillors at the same time during Wednesday’s council meeting.
“They all stabbed me in the back and stripped my powers,” said Ford.
On Twitter, focus quickly shifted from the budget to his Super Bowl-related wardrobe choice.
Ford’s Broncos jersey riled up NFL fans to the point where some suggested the embattled mayor jinxed the team’s shot at holding the Vince Lombardi trophy on this weekend. Ouch.
The Denver Broncos have not responded to Ford’s Super Bowl endorsement.
