Chill out, people: the "Dude Chilling Park" sign is here to stay.
The popular sign has been approved as a piece of public art in East Vancouver's Guelph Park, the Vancouver Park Board tweeted on Monday night.
The news comes after months of uncertainty about the sign's future. Parks staff took the sign down after noticing it last November, but its removal inspired an online petition asking for the public space to be named after the sign altogether.
The sign, which was created by artist Viktor Briestensky, was apparently inspired by a Michael Dennis sculpture that shows a lounging figure in the park, CBC News reported.
Many social media users tweeted their happiness about the news, but at least one local resident is feeling jilted by it.
Steven Bohus with the Residents Association of Mount Pleasant (RAMP) said the park board should focus on other matters, Global News reported.
"We shouldn’t be arguing about this, we should be getting on with improving our parks system, and we are parks deficient in Mount Pleasant," he said.
