Music fans were surprised to hear that City and Colour would be performing at the 2014 Junos in Winnipeg, not because the popular Toronto band led by Dallas Green wasn't deserving of a telecast spot but because they weren't, y'know, nominated for a Juno Award.

And it appears that Dallas Green was as surprised as you, as he has now cancelled his appearance.

“I have had the pleasure of performing on the Juno Awards many times and have been honoured by the recognition I’ve received over the years," said Green in a statement released this morning (Feb. 7). "I've performed with Alexisonfire, as City and Colour and as part of a tribute to one of my musical heroes. Not a lot of people get a chance to say that.

Given that I have not been nominated this year, I would much rather see a new nominee be afforded the opportunity to perform on the show and have the same experience.

I’m sorry to disappoint anyone hoping to see me perform next month, however, I will be back in Winnipeg at the MTS Centre in May as part of my cross Canada tour. I will see you then!”

City and Colour has been nominated for seven Junos and won three since 2007, including two songwriter of the year awards and best alternative album. His previous band, Alexisonfire, won best new group in 2005 and was nominated for group of the year in 2007.
