Kathleen Edwards Quitting? Singer Says 'I'm Pretty Sure I Don't Want To Make Music Anymore'

Is Kathleen Edwards Calling It Quits?

After four critically acclaimed studio albums dating back to her stellar "Failer" debut over a decade ago, singer Kathleen Edwards today announced she might be close to calling it a career.

UPDATE: The immediate uproar over her Facebook post led to a slightly less vague tweet:

According to her official site, Edwards is still slated to play on Feb. 16 in Bruno, Saskatchewan as part of the Pickers' Cup Festival but it's unknown if that appearance has been nixed. Edwards -- who released her last studio album "Voyageur" in 2012 -- played the Dead of Winter festival in Halifax last month where she covered Bruce Springsteen's "Human Touch" alongside Jenn Grant. A gig in Fredericton, New Brunswick was also honoured. In late December Edwards was also part of an ensemble which covered The Pogues' "Fairytale of New York" on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

Edwards first came to prominence in 2003 with "Failer." From there the sophomore effort Back To Me and Asking For Flowers were issued in 2005 and 2008, respectively.

Although it's unclear if Edwards will either take a break from music and return to it later, the singer tweeted on Feb. 4 that protecting animals was very important to her. "I want to dedicate myself to ruining the lives of people who abuse animals," she tweeted. "Fucking psychopaths."

Fans were mixed in their responses to the relatively surprising news regarding Edwards. And while some showed support for possible non-musical careers, others weren't as sympathetic. "Oh god, everyone's so understanding, well sorry, no, not acceptable, you are a major talent and one of my all time favourites, and sorry no," Andrew Warne wrote in the comments section following Edwards' post. "I write songs, badly, so work with me and you'll remind yourself what an angel you are, tough love from the uk xx"
