As friends and classmates reel from the deaths of three young adults in Trois-Rivières, Que., new details are emerging about what happened in the days leading up to the tragedy.

Police found the bodies of two sisters and their male friend — all in their late teens or early 20s — around 8 a.m. ET on Tuesday.

CBC News cannot name any of the victims or the suspects due to provisions in the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Radio-Canada, CBC’s French service, reported that the original 911 call came from the youngest victim, who was killed last.

Sources told Radio-Canada that one of the suspects was in love with her and wanted to be in a relationship.

The boys had originally planned for one of them to kill the other after they killed the three victims, Radio-Canada reports.

Two of the victims’ friends told CBC's French service that threatening text messages were exchanged beforehand.

1st-degree murder charges

The suspects, two 17-year-old boys, were intercepted by police while leaving the home.

Both teens were charged with three counts of first-degree murder on Wednesday, in the Trois-Rivières youth court.

They are also charged with conspiracy to commit murder and with plotting to kill another woman, as well as multiple police officers.

The Crown has asked for the suspects to be sentenced as adults.

University flag at half-mast

On Wednesday, the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR), where one of the victims was an occupational therapy student, lowered its flag to half-mast.

“She was a ray of sunshine,” said UQTR student Alexandre Arsenault about one of the victims.

Students in the occupational therapy department wore their faculty’s orange caps as a gesture of remembrance.

Social support workers were on site at the university as well as the CollègeMarie-de-l'Incarnation, where another one of the victims was a student.

Acquaintances of the suspects were shaken by the events.

Caroline Bujold, who knows one of the suspects, said she never imagined something like this could happen.

“He was happy, he was always smiling with us. I would have never imagined this. He didn’t seem sad.”
