West Vancouver police say search and rescue crews were already searching for an out-of-bounds snowboarder when they received a call about a second missing snowboarder.
Police say it took two hours to track the second 9-1-1 call to a teenager from North Vancouver, who told officers someone used his phone when he was not looking to make the prank call.
Constable Jeff Palmer says police, as well as the volunteer search and rescue team, are not happy.
"You know, think these things through where you are not putting anyone's life [in danger], whether it's paid or volunteer emergency responder[s]. You know, 9-1-1 is for emergencies. It's not for horsing around," says Palmer.
Palmer says police have spoken with the teen's parents and no charges are being considered at this time.
The out-of-bounds snowboarder managed to find a service road and walk out of the woods himself.
