Montreal Stars cheer on women in Canada-U.S. gold-medal game

Seven players from the Montreal Stars are facing off at the Canada-U.S. gold medal women’s hockey game at the Sochi Olympics this afternoon.

The rest of their teammates will be watching from Champs sports bar as Caroline Ouellette, Charline Labonté, Meghan Agosta-Marciano, Catherine Ward, Haley Irwin and Lauriane Rougeau represent Team Canada.

A seventh Star — Julie Chu — will wear the stars and stripes.

The Canadian women's hockey team is looking for its fourth gold-medal win in as many Olympics.

For its part, the Montreal Stars have won three of the past five Canadian Women’s Hockey League championships.

“It’s the highest level of women’s hockey in North America,” says Hélène Lapointe, the team’s spokeswoman.

She says 25 players in the CWHL are at the Sochi Olympics.

“These girls are amazing hockey players. The calibre is really good,” she says.

The gold-medal women’s hockey game starts at 12 p.m. ET. You can watch it on CBC television or online on CBC’s Olympics page.

You can also follow CBC Montreal's Scribble feed as the CBC's George Menexis live-tweets the scene at Champs.
