PANORAMA, B.C. -
UPDATE: The BC Coroners Service has identified the victim as Rachel Dawn Deugau of Langham, Saskatchewan.

A ski resort in southeastern British Columbia says a 12-year-old girl has died following an accident on the mountain.

Panorama Mountain Village says the girl was skiing with her father Thursday morning when she lost control, veered off a run and struck a tree.

The girl and her father were airlifted to a hospital in Invermere, B.C., but the mountain says she died due to head and internal injuries.

The resort also states she was wearing a helmet, visibility was excellent and the snow surface was soft and groomed.

Cpl. Grant Simpson of the Columbia Valley RCMP says the girl lived in a small community near Saskatoon and was on a holiday with her father, brother and some friends.

He says police and the coroners service are investigating the incident, although the RCMP is treating it as a tragic accident.
