INVERMERE, B.C. - Officials have released the name of a Saskatchewan girl who was killed in a skiing accident at a British Columbia ski resort.

Rachel Dawn Deugau of Langham, Sask., died on Thursday when she lost control and skied into a tree at the side of a run at Panorama Mountain Village.

The 12-year-old was on vacation with her father, brother and some friends and was skiing with her father when the accident occurred.

She was taken by air ambulance to a hospital in nearby Invermere, but had suffered head and internal injuries.

The BC Coroners Service and RCMP are investigating her death, though RCMP describe it as a tragic accident.

The resort has said she was wearing a helmet, visibility was excellent and the snow surface was soft and groomed at the time.
