Alberta As Middle Earth And 'The Lord Of The Rings' (MAP)

LOOK: If Alberta Were 'The Lord Of The Rings'

What would Alberta look like as Middle Earth?

According to our friends over at MetaCanada.ca, probably something like this:

The satirical website is having a bit of a laugh at the expense of the oilsands, speculating how J.R.R. Tolkien's mythic settlements in "The Lord of the Rings" would translate over to Alberta – and, of course, casting Fort McMurray as the dreaded Mordor. (Which isn't the first comparison between the two, by the way.)

“The tarry darkness that fell over Middle Earth in the novels is not unlike the oil being bored out of once-pristine, desolate bogs," reads the fake news story, which states that a Toronto film studio has green-lit a Canadian twist on the beloved trilogy.

To further their idea for a movie, which would focus less on the precious ring and more on Alberta's oil patch, they've imagined a cast of characters that could be played by Canadian politicians, personalities, and activists.

Canadian Cast Of 'Lord Of The Rings'

"Whereas in the novels, Frodo and his vertically challenged friends set out to find Mount Doom and destroy the 'one ring of power'...they're attempting to destroy the blue prints for a mega-development that will poison the water table and the 'Atahbooska River' [sic], and needlessly employ tonnes of Middle Earthlings."
