PONOKA, Alta. - Alcohol and speed are considered factors after a car that had been reported stolen from a central Alberta home rolled several times on a rural road, killing the young driver.

RCMP say the 19-year-old man died at the scene when the vehicle went out of control Sunday morning on a snow-covered road about 12 kilometres north of Ponoka.

An 18-year-old man who was a passenger had to be freed from the wreck before he was taken for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Mounties allege the car had been taken about 10 minutes earlier from a home in Ponoka, where it had been left unattended and running to warm up.

The driver and passenger are residents of Maskwacis, Alta.

A charge of possession of stolen property is pending against the younger man.
