Northern Lights Visible Tonight In Edmonton, Winnipeg, Halifax

The Northern Lights will illuminate the skies over several parts of Canada tonight and Thursday night.

Auroral activity is expected to be high, with the lights visible over areas including Yellowknife, Iqaluit, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Thunder Bay, Sept-Iles and Halifax, according to the Geophysical Institute at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

The lights will be the result of the largest solar flare of 2014, which luckily came from an area of the Sun facing away from Earth. Nevertheless, the flare is expected to result in plenty of pretty lights.

Lucky Canadians all over the country have caught glimpses of the Northern Lights recently, with displays lighting up the night over Vancouver and the Rocky Mountains, creating opportunities for some gorgeous photos and video.
