RCMP suspect pickup veered off path before fatal crash on Alberta highway

GRANDE PRAIRIE, Alta. - RCMP think a pickup truck may have crossed a highway centre line in northwestern Alberta before it slammed into a transport truck, killing the driver of the first vehicle.

The crash happened late Sunday night on Highway 40 south of Grande Prairie.

A 29-year-old man who was driving the pickup died at the scene.

He was a resident of High Prairie, Alta., but his name has not been released.

There was no immediate word on the status of the second driver.

Traffic was diverted overnight while police investigated.
