Truck fire closes Gardiner, Lake Shore near Jameson

Commuters heading into Toronto from the west end are facing a traffic nightmare this morning as a truck fire has forced the closure of both the Gardiner Expressway and Lake Shore Boulevard in both directions.

Shortly after 7 a.m. a cube van with two propane tanks caught fire east of the Jameson Avenue exit. To get water to the site, fire crews had to access a hydrant on Lake Shore Boulevard. That left the two major arteries into the city from the west end closed during the height of the morning commute, causing major traffic backups.

After the initial closure, one westbound lane of the Gardiner was reopened just before 8 a.m.

Traffic remained at a standstill on both roads as of 7:45 a.m.
