Roberto Luongo Trade: Goalie's Best Off-Ice Moments

Posted: Updated:

In classic Roberto Luongo form, the now-former Vancouver Canucks goalie announced his trade back to the Florida Panthers by simply tweeting a palm tree emoticon from his popular account.

That Luongo, 34, is a fan favourite is an understatement. He led the 2011 Canucks to the Stanley Cup final and won two Olympic gold medals. The veteran leader's ability to maintain a sense of humour through demotions, meltdowns and losses will keep him in Canucks fans' hearts for a long time.

Here are some of the best off-ice moments from our favourite poker-playing, charity-supporting, big-hearted goalie:

  • His toilet humour

Luongo missed the start of double overtime during the 2007 playoffs because he had to go. Like, really GO. Six years later, he made fun of one of his most embarrassing moments by tweeting a photo of a toilet from the dressing room in Anaheim's Honda Center: "And this is where the magic happened...... #anaheim #playoffs2007 #squirts"
  • When he cuddled up to Ryan Kesler in an ugly Christmas sweater

  • When he called Scott Oake a "milt" on TV

    Milt is fish sperm.
  • When he shared the depths of his soul in poetry readings
  • All the time he gave supporting Canuck Place

Luongo visited sick children and their families at the hospice and also filmed several public service announcements.
  • That awesome curling rock hat

  • Giving away his stick after some games
  • But mostly, when he danced like this
