With new goalie Viktor Fasth yet to join the team, the Edmonton Oilers had another goalie step in for practice on Wednesday morning - Shannon Szabados.

The invite to practice came after a campaign was launched on Twitter on Tuesday, calling for the Olympic gold medallist, and Edmonton native, to be named as an emergency backup to Ben Scrivens before the Oilers' game against Ottawa.

Edmonton had dealt IlyaBryzgalov earlier in the day, leaving a hole in the lineup since Fasth was unable to join the team before the game.

Oilers GM Craig MacTavish praised Szabados, but told the Edmonton Journal that it was a "it would be something that we’d consider but not at this point in time.”

The team decided to go with University of Alberta Golden Bears goalie Kurtis Mucha to back up Scrivens against the Senators.

Szabados also won gold with Team Canada at the Vancouver Games in 2010.
