2014 Sochi Paralympic Medal Count: Brian McKeever Gets Second Gold, Canada's Eighth Medal

UPDATED Monday, Mar. 17th: Canada surged into third place in the medal standings as the 2014 Paralympics came to a close.

Canada finished with seven gold medals and 16 medals in total. Russia outpaced the field and took 80 medals, 30 of them gold.

Brian McKeever took home his third medal of these Games. And Canada continued its curling dominance with a gold in wheelchair curling.

Team Canada accomplished its goal of a third-place finish in the medal standings at these Games. Canada took home 19 medals at the Vancouver Paralympics in 2010.

UPDATED Wednesday, Mar. 12: Canada's cross country skier Brian McKeever staged a dramatic comeback to win Canada's second gold medal of the Sochi Paralympic Games on Wednesday.

McKeever fell early in the visually-impaired 1km race but managed to overtake the competition and bring home Canada's eighth medal at these Games.

Host nation Russia continues on a tear with 47 medals, 16 of them gold.

Canada got its first gold medal of these games on Monday, courtesy of cross country skier Brian McKeever.

Canada added to its medal count, getting a bronze medal from biathlete Mark Arendz.

Other medals thus far include super-G skier Mac Marcoux's bronze and sit-skier Josh Dueck's silver medal. Meanwhile, the men's sledge hockey team upholds the country's legacy by solidifying a spot in the semifinals.
