VICTORIA - A coroner's inquest has been called into the death of a motorcyclist who was crushed by logs that tumbled off a logging truck in Whistler, B.C.

Sixty-five-year-old Hugh Roberts of West Vancouver was riding northbound on Highway 99 last October when a southbound logging truck lost its load.

A jury will hear evidence from witnesses under oath and is expected to make recommendations aimed at preventing future deaths under similar circumstances.

A West Vancouver mother and daughter were killed in a similar incident a decade ago when logs rolled off a truck on Highway 1, crushing their vehicle.

No date has been set for the inquest.
