EDMONTON - The University of Alberta's president and vice-chancellor says she will not seek a third term.

Indira Samarasekera (in-DEER'-ah SAM'-rah-SAKE'-rah) has told the board of governors that she'll be leaving her office when her contract expires on June 30, 2015.

She says she'll keep working until then to make the Edmonton university one of the best public institutions in the world.

The governors say the search for Samarasekera’s replacement will be international.

Samarasekera was appointed president on July 1, 2005, and reappointed in 2009.

She is one of Canada's leading metallurgical engineers.
