Eager revellers brave cold at St. Patrick's Day parade

For the second year in a row, Toronto’s St. Patrick’s Day parade took place amid sub-zero temperatures.

But the revellers bundled up, braved the cold and brought high spirits to the parade nonetheless.

They wore green shirts, green hats, shamrock-shaped glasses, green sashes and beads, as they celebrated St. Patrick’s Day at the parade that is now in its 27th year in Toronto.

Ray Bassett, the Irish ambassador to Canada, made the trip to Toronto after previously attending St. Patrick’s Day celebrations in Montreal.

"It’s amazing that a small island in the North Atlantic has spread this festival right around the world," he told CBC News on Sunday.
