FREDERICTON - The Speaker of the New Brunswick legislature has announced he won't seek re-election when voters go to the polls in September.

Dale Graham was first elected in a byelection in 1993 as the Progressive Conservative member for the riding of Carleton North.

The 62-year-old native of Woodstock, N.B., served as deputy premier and minister of a number of portfolios in the government of former premier Bernard Lord.

He has been Speaker since October 2010.

The election is set for September 22.
