Ontario's 2014 Sunshine List: When Will It Be Released?

When Will Ontario's 2014 Sunshine List Be Released?
CP

It just wouldn't be spring without the Ontario "sunshine" list.

The report of public sector employees who earned more than $100,000 in 2013 — from doctors and teachers to police officers and firefighters — is expected to be released in full by March 31.

UPDATE, March 28: The "sunshine list" has been released. Full details on the 2014 listing here.

It's a safe bet many Ontarians are itching to find out how their taxpayer dollars were spent. And, let's be honest, check to see if some friends, enemies, neighbours or bosses made the cut.

Energy executives topped the list last year with Tom Mitchell, president and CEO of Ontario Power Generation, the highest paid at $1.7 million.

The list has grown 38 per cent since 2009 but the government said the average salary in 2012 was $127,566, down $41 from 2011.

But there are always some surprises.

Did you know TVO host Steve Paikin earned $309,539 in 2012, far more money than the premier?

Or that Toronto Police Chief Bill Blair banked $367,719, more than double the $172,686 salary of Toronto Mayor Rob Ford?

With an election expected in the province within months, it's fair to say Ontario leaders — who all make the "sunshine list" themselves — will be paying close attention.

Be sure to return to The Huffington Post Canada once the list is released and check out some of the highlights from the 2013 list in the slideshow below.
