Brandon William McNeil of Dartmouth charged with internet luring

Brandon William McNeil, a Dartmouth, N.S., man who is the nephew of Nova Scotia Premier Stephen McNeil, is facing child luring and child pornography charges after authorities searched a home and seized computer equipment over the weekend.

Police received information on Saturday that a 20-year-old man was sharing sexually explicit images online with a 13-year-old boy.

McNeil, 20, faces charges of luring a child, making sexually explicit material available to a child and making child pornography.

Kyley Harris, a spokesman for the premier's office, confirmed the accused is the nephew of Stephen McNeil and the son of former Halifax Regional Police deputy chief Chris McNeil.

The charges against Brandon McNeil stem from the search of a property in the 0 to 100 block of Kingston Crescent in Dartmouth on Sunday.

During the search, police seized computer equipment and arrested McNeil at the scene.

Police said the accused and the victim know each other.

McNeil is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth provincial court on April 29. He has been released from custody on the following conditions:

- He is not to communicate with children under the age of 16.

- He is not to possess a device that can access the internet.

- He is not to be within 50 metres of a place frequented by children.
