Since you can't target one area of the body to lose weight or tone up, the best way to get a full body workout starts with working out your main muscles.

"To work major muscle groups that define lean legs, glutes, and arms, perform a full-body sculpting routine three times a week," says Jill Bunny, a bikini fitness model and trainer based in Mississauga, Ont.

Keeping up with your workouts is one thing, but a proper diet should is the other part of the equation. Sticking to fat-burning foods like lentils, hot peppers and bananas is one option, but superfoods like goji berries, acai berries and Japanese seaweed, for example, are all equally healthy. But most of all, keep it consistent, as it's easier to maintain a regular healthy diet when you do it every day.

Besides looking amazing in your clothes (or your bathing suit), this kind of focus on health will improve your life in general. There are several reasons why we should tone up or exercise on a regular basis, including getting better sleep, being more productive and living longer.

In Bunny's routine below, she incorporates weights, and we suggest sticking to three or five pounds if you're a beginner. If you're uncomfortable with weights altogether, use a medicine ball or try it without dumbbells.

Here are Bunny's 6 exercises for toning your butt, abs and arms:
