CALGARY - A Calgary pastor has been charged with sexually assaulting two children in the 1970s.

Police say the charges involve two female complainants who knew the accused as a pastor at a Baptist church.

Investigators say the alleged abuse against one woman began in 1979 when she was five and continued until she was 15.

They say the other woman was nine when the alleged assaults began in 1986 and continued until she was 18.

Police say they learned of the allegations after a similar case in 2012, when another leader at the same church was charged with sexually assaulting three boys in the 80s and 90s.

Police arrested Thomas Larry Jones of Carstairs, Alta., on Wednesday.

Jones, who is 69, is charged with indecent assault of a female, gross indecency, sexual assault, sexual interference and sexual exploitation.
