Robyn Doolittle Heading To Globe And Mail

Globe And Mail Poaches Robyn Doolittle

Does the Globe and Mail have a case of Rob Ford reporting envy?

Following the Toronto Star’s revelation last year that Rob Ford was caught on tape smoking crack, the national newspaper followed up with its own story about Ford’s brother Doug and his alleged hash business back in the 1980s.

It didn’t capture the public’s imagination in the same way as the Rob Ford crack story, but now the Globe is taking another step that looks like a bit like Rob Ford envy: It’s hiring Robyn Doolittle, one of three reporters who first saw the crack tape in May, 2013.

Doolittle’s book on Rob Ford, “Crazy Town,” came out in February, shooting to the top of Amazon.ca’s bestsellers list and landing her an appearance on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.

It took all of seven days for the movie rights to the book to get picked up — by Canadian company Blue Ice Productions.

And Doolittle isn't the first Toronto Star reporter to jump ship to the Globe recently; sports columnist Cathal Kelly announced last week he's headed for the Globe.

Doolittle says she will be joining the Globe’s investigative team, though no word yet on whether she’ll keep up the Rob Ford beat.

We’re willing to bet the Globe wouldn't say no.
