The owner of a pit bull terrier in Calgary could be facing fines as high as $10,000 after the dog attacked a woman and left her with serious injuries to her legs and face.
Authorities say the dog was running free when it attacked the woman as she was walking her daughter to her school bus on Tuesday morning.
Authorities say she was bitten on her legs, then on the face after she fell.
She suffered multiple wounds and had to undergo emergency surgery on her eyes.
Calgary Animal and Bylaw Services says multiple charges have been laid against the pit bull's owner, who has taken full responsibility for the attack and has chosen to have the dog put down after a mandatory 10-day quarantine period.
There were 647 aggressive dog incidents last year, resulting in 452 charges.
