Air Canada says it is investigating after a video — which appears to show its baggage handlers dropping items from a tall, moving staircase — circulated on the internet.

The short video was shot by Dwayne Stewart of Vancouver at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport. It appeared on YouTube yesterday and circulated via his Twitter account, and that of his friend and seatmate, on Friday.

The video runs a little over a minute, and shows two baggage handlers unloading a plane. One drops five items of luggage from a atop a staircase into a bin, which the second handler then moves into a nearby vehicle. The staircase looks to be about six metres high.

The items are said to be luggage that passengers had checked at the gate.

Air Canada said in a statement it is “extremely disappointed” by the video.

“This clearly goes against our standard baggage handling procedures,” the airline said. “An investigation into this has been launched.” The airline also followed up via Twitter.
