Stephen Harper Will Answer Questions From Journalists... If They're In Grade 6

Harper Agrees To Answer Journalists' Questions... If They're In Grade 6

Stephen Harper is famous for restricting how many questions he'll take from reporters, but he seems to be a little bit less discerning when it comes to queries from kids.

In a new episode of his YouTube show "24 SEVEN", Harper takes some "tough questions" from some "very junior reporters" out of a Calgary elementary school.

"Do you find your job amusing?" one sixth grader asks.

The PM's response is more than a little cringe-worthy. And not just because he takes so few questions from grown-up reporters.

"Amusing? Well, it's not 'Veep'. You guys probably don't watch that," Harper says, referencing the HBO show, and drawing awkward laughter from his wife Laureen. "We have the odd amusing moment but the odd time you have to laugh at things but there's probably more seriousness than amusement."

No kidding.

"24 SEVEN" is seen by many as an attempt by the Prime Minister's Office to craft its own narrative about Harper. Many Conservative MPs have argued that the media treats the PM unfairly and has a left-wing bias.

However, so far the web show hasn't been much of a success. The most-popular episode received nearly 12,000 views, but the majority have yielded little more than 1,000.

Yet, despite the low numbers, as many as four public servants from the Privy Council Office work on the show, according to the Ottawa Citizen. That number does not include the taxpayer-paid employees at the PMO who also work on the clip.
