It's the most wonderful day of the year — the day the Calgary Stampede announces their lineup of midway foods expected to debut at this year's festival.

Calgarians wait in anticipation each spring to see what type of deep-fried goodness they'll be able to cram down their gullet come July, and this year's 32 new items do not disappoint.

From the delicious, to the disgusting, to the truly bizarre, there's something to suit every taste. The important thing to remember is that it's carnival food, it's supposed to be terrible for you and it's best consumed after a few beers, when your conscience has been silenced buy the alcohol.

  • Bacon Wrapped Corn

    Corn on the cob wrapped in a piece of smoked bacon and served with sweet maple syrup butter.

    Rolled cookie dough is dipped in pastry batter and deep fried. This treat is a childhood dream come true!

  • Deep Fried Donut Bacon Cheeseburgers

    The name says it all. Two melt-in-your-mouth donuts stacked together with a burger, cheese and bacon served in-between!

  • Deep Fried Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups

    A deep friend snack made of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, dipped in batter and deep fried.

  • Flower Cotton Candy

    This cotton candy is a unique experience for everyone; watch your cotton candy be spun into a beautiful flower. Each stick is unique and considered a piece of art.

  • Fried Pickle Pizza

    Slivers of pickles chips, deep fried, and placed on top of a bed of cheesy pizza.

  • Juicys Full Rack Ribs

  • Naaco TNT - A sweet, salty, spicy, fresh and crunchy puffed rice based salad from India. It is made by mixing a variety of vegetables, sauces/chutneys, spice powders, fresh herbs, lime and puffed rice together and serving it in a waffle cone.

  • Deep-fried Philly cheesesteak rollup - The traditional Philly cheesesteak sandwich, which gets rolled up and deep fried.

  • Deep-fried butter - Cubes of butter are tightly wrapped in homemade pie crust before being deep fried to perfection.

Among the items we're excited to try are the red velvet cupcakes (yum), deep fried Reese's Peanut Butter Cups (OMG, yum) and the Polish Poutine (yum to the millionth degree.)

Foods we'll probably avoid are the deep fried donut bacon burger (why?), the bacon-wrapped pork belly (we're trying to get through Stampede without a heart attack, thanks), and scorpion pizza (seriously?)
