'24: Live Another Day': 24 Things You Might Not Know About '24'

24 Things You Might Not Know About '24'
Fox

Oh, "24." How we've missed you so.

Sure, it got a little rough there around the last couple of seasons, but looking back, you've never let us down. Jack Bauer has suffered through eight long, horrible days (well, eight days and two hours when you count "Redemption"), and with another grim day on the horizon, it doesn't look like it's going to lighten up anytime soon on "24: Live Another Day."

To celebrate Bauer's exhilarating return, we thought we'd honour the show with some fun facts about the long-running Fox action-drama. (We've also reviewed the first few episodes for you, and good news, it's all positive feedback.)

1. Jack Bauer has killed 266 people over the first eight seasons. Day 6 is his busiest, dispatching 50 "hostiles" (killing most of the people that day between the hours of 5 a.m. and 6 a.m.). Day 4 is a close second with 43 kills. In the first season, he isn't as jaded and only has 10 deaths under his belt. The 12 rebel soldiers he offs in "24: Redemption" make those two hours his fastest killing spree.

2. The unluckiest hour is between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. On Days 4 and 6 alone, terrorists attack a bus, subway, shopping mall and hotel.

3. Jack has killed 29 people between the hours of 10 p.m. and 11 p.m., more than any other hour.

4. Every even-numbered season features more kills than odd-numbered seasons.

5. Jack has only killed four women (that's less than two percent): Nina Myers on Day 3, Nicole, a member of Habib Marwan's terrorist cell on Day 4, and two on Day 8: Dana Walsh, and an unnamed Russian operative.

6. Six moles have infiltrated CTU. The most recent was Day 8's Dana Walsh, the most memorable was Nina Myers, and the first was Jamey Farrell, who was working for mercenary Ira Gaines.

7. Kim's email password in Day 1 is LIFESUCKS.

8. "24" is the longest-running espionage-themed television drama ever, surpassing both "Mission: Impossible" and "The Avengers."

9. "24" was originally supposed to be a romantic comedy, showing 24 hours in the day of a wedding.

10. Twenty-four hours in the life of Jack Bauer takes 10-and-a-half months to film.

11. With seven Emmy nominations for the role of Jack Bauer, no other actor has had more nominations for the same role in the past decade. And "24" is the only Fox show to have ever won an Emmy for Best Drama.

12. Every "24" cast member has their hair trimmed every five days to maintain continuity.

13. Sarah Clarke, who played one of the series' most evil villains, Nina Myers (in the first three seasons), was cast on the morning filming began, so she had to spend the entire first season in the clothes she wore to the audition.

14. Viewers have never seen Jack Bauer do three things: eat, drink or use the toilet.

15. While you may only remember Presidents David Palmer, Charles Logan and Allison Taylor, there have been nine presidents total in the "24" universe. The others include acting President Jim Prescott, and Presidents John Keeler, Hal Gardner, Wayne Palmer, Noah Daniels and now "Live Another Day'"s James Heller.

16. Jack's daughter, Kim, has been abducted eight times (insert eyeroll here). The most memorable (and panned) was when she found herself trapped in a snare after escaping from kidnappers on Day 2.

17. The silent or non-ticking clock, which signifies a significant death, has been used 11 times. Two silent clocks have occurred in the middle of an episode (in Day 2, when George Mason died of radiation poisoning; and Day 7, when Bill Buchanan sacrificed himself to save President Taylor). Season 8 has been the only season to have two consecutive episodes end with a silent clock, following the deaths of President Omar Hassan and Renee Walker, respectively.

18. The final clock of Day 8 was the only clock in all eight seasons to count down from 3 seconds to 0.

19. A 12-hour digital clock was used rather than 24-hour numerals in the time checks, as it was feared this would confuse viewers.

20. Seven nations have made appearances on "24": The United States, China, Russia, Malaysia, Mexico, South Korea, Sangala, and Kamistan.

21. Although no Counter Terrorist Unit exists in real life, CTU was mentioned in a Season 4 episode of "The West Wing." President Bartlet was on conference call after having received the latest news about a military conflict between Israel and the fictional Arabic state of Qumar, and Ken Kato says (on the phone): "Sir, It's Ken. On your order, we'll put CTU on high alert."

22. Of the 17 characters introduced in "24'"s pilot episode, only six remain alive: Jack, Kim, Tony, Mandy, Rick and Patty.

23. Jack has had onscreen kisses with five characters (Teri, Claudia, Nina, Audrey and Renee). Only Audrey was still alive, 18 hours after their kiss.

24. Booze-lover Kiefer Sutherland was delighted to discover that college students used "24" episodes as a drinking game, downing a shot every time Jack Bauer says "Damn it!". For fun, he changed the script in one episode to have Jack say "Damn it!" nearly 14 times in an hour.

"24: Live Another Day" premieres with a two-hour event on Monday, May 5 at 8 p.m. ET on Global and Fox.
