Quotes from the Ontario election campaign

Ontarians will go to the polls on June 12 to elect a new government. Some quotes from the campaign trail:

---

"It's time for some straight talk. We have to reduce government payroll, there's no way around that. So I'd reduce the size of the bureaucracy by 100,000 positions, a 10 per cent reduction that'll take us down to where government employment was in 2009." Progressive Conservative Leader Tim Hudak.

---

"Today we learned that Tim Hudak's jobs plan is to turn paycheques into pink slips for 100,000 people...That's 100,000 people no longer able to earn a living, no longer paying taxes and buying goods. It's 100,000 families who would lose a breadwinner." Liberal Leader Kathleen Wynne on Hudak's plan to cut 100,000 public service jobs.

---

"How does it make sense, when you have an economy that is struggling, when you have a lot of families already out of work, to say you are going to throw a whole bunch more families out of work." NDP Leader Andrea Horwath on Hudak's plan to cut 100,000 public service jobs.

---

"We do not want to have our wages and benefits and our standard of living drove right down to the lowest common denominator. We do not want to engage in that race to the bottom. We want everybody to engage in a race to the top." Warren (Smokey) Thomas, president of the Ontario Public Sector Employees Union, on Hudak's jobs plan.
