Buying a gift for Mother's Day doesn't have to be difficult. All you really have to do is figure out which brands your mother likes.

That's according to Google Canada, which found out in a survey that Canadian moms are very brand loyal when it comes to cosmetics, skin care and hair products.

The survey, titled "Inside Mom's Shopping Cart," was carried out in conjunction with Ipsos-Reid. It found that, on average, moms only think about 1.6 skin care brands, 1.7 hair product brands and two cosmetic brands when making purchases.

Moms are also quick shoppers, taking one to three days to decide on beauty products. They take 1.3 days to buy particular hair products and 2.6 days when it comes to cosmetics and skin care.

They also spend more on beauty products depending on which generations they belong to.

Baby boomers (aged 50 years old and up) are the big spenders here, dedicating $83 per month to beauty products. Gen Xers (aged 35 to 49 years old), meanwhile, spend $69 per month, while millennials (aged 18 to 34 years old) spend $64 per month.

All of them spend most of that money on skin care.

Moms with kids under six years old are the most careful about buying beauty products, spending $625 per year, while mothers with children aged six to 17 years old spend $895 annually.

It's when the kids reach their adult years (18+) that moms have more money to spend on prettying products, forking out $987 per year.

How much they spend also depends on where they live. At $1,015 per year, Ontario mothers spend the most, followed by Quebec moms at $800 per year, West Coasters at $775 per year and Atlantic residents at $555 annually.

One thing is certain: Mother's Day gifts don't have to be expensive. Products such as lip balm and an "I Heart Mom" soap can be had for under $25.

You can also make great gifts at home. Some options include roll-on perfume and artisan or handmade soaps.
