Jack Uppal, Liberal Candidate, Apologizes For Controversial Facebook Post

Liberal Candidate's Facebook Post Does Not Endear Him To The Public

Jack Uppal's campaign is not off to a good start.

The new Liberal candidate for the provincial riding of Nepean-Carleton apologized Saturday after a now-deleted post on his Facebook wall claiming to be an "analysis" of men's and women's brains made the rounds online.

"Women can easily learn many languages. But can not find solutions to problems", one part of the status read.

"Mens brains has a lot of space for handling the analytical process. They can analyze and find the solution for a process and design a map of a building easily. But If a complex map is viewed by women, they can not understand it. Women can not understand the details of a map easily, For them it is just a dump of lines on a paper," read another section.

Ontario Progressive Conservative candidate Laurie Scott, who is running in the riding of Haliburton—Kawartha Lakes—Brock, shared the post on her website.

“It is upsetting that Kathleen Wynne would appoint a candidate in Nepean-Carleton who would spread such sexist, close-minded views," the statement reads.

Uppal apologized in a statement released by the Liberals, saying that he didn't intend for the post to be taken literally, according to the Ottawa Citizen.

The controversy is no doubt embarrassing for the provincial Liberals, who brought in Uppal as a last-minute substitution, according to the Citizen's David Reevely.
