Cannes Film Festival fashion is at once over-the-top, glamorous, wacky and always controversial.

Also known as the anti-Oscars, Cannes brings out celebrities' wild sides, which they wouldn't dare show at red carpet back at home.

Take Sharon Stone, who nearly spilled out of her red dress at the 2013 Cannes and Carey Mulligan, who went out of her style box and wore a very un-Carey like gown, also last year.

But those outfits can't compare to the drama on the backs of celebs such as Cate Blanchett, Bjork, Tilda Swinton and more than a few mystery guests.

So, as we celebrate the kick-off of Cannes 2014, we take a look back at the festival's most controversial outfits, which are sure to generate a lot of heated discussion.
