B.C. Premier Christy Clark and her Liberal party are celebrating the one-year anniversary of their comeback election victory over the Opposition NDP. And one congratulatory message was especially stinging toward the former NDP leader.
James Moore, the federal industry minister and Conservative MP for Port Moody-Westwood-Port Coquitlam, tweeted his congrats Wednesday to Clark and deputy premier Rich Coleman.
Moore's tweet included the front page of The Province newspaper a week before the 2013 election featuring then-NDP leader Adrian Dix and the headline: "If this man kicked a dog, he'd still win the election."
On Wednesday, Moore wrote: "1 year ago today, there was a kicking of sorts. Happy anniversary @christyclarkbc @colemancountry."
Ouch.
Public opinion polls leading up to the B.C. election suggested Dix and NDP were headed for a major victory. Clark and her party were down about 20 points in the polls, wounded by an ethnic voter manipulation scandal and still packing the legacy of the hated harmonized sales tax.
While Clark failed to win her own seat, her party won a decisive majority.
Dix, who tried to run a positive campaign, stepped down as NDP leader, but remains as MLA for Vancouver-Kingsway.
John Horgan was acclaimed NDP leader earlier this month.
